Remember, boy, life's greatest treasures lie within the pages of books and the vast canvas of the universe. Embrace them both, and you'll find your way to wisdom and success

Introduction

Welcome to my first blog post, where I’ll be discussing the principles of reading books. This article takes inspiration from a video by Guru Gembul, which I'll link in the references.
The goal of this article is to inspire better book reading habits and encourage exploring the world through literature and nature.
Let's dive into these principles:

Having a Life Vision

If we find ourselves reluctant to read books, it's likely due to one of three reasons:
  • Excessive arrogance (thinking we already know it all)
  • Extreme laziness
  • Lack of a clear life vision
For instance, if we aspire to wealth, how do we achieve it? Reading books is a crucial step. There are countless books out there filled with thoughts, experiences, and advice from people who may have faced situations similar to ours.

Reading Means Borrowing and Buying Others' Thoughts

When we read a book, we are essentially borrowing and buying into someone else's thoughts. For instance, if we want to solve a problem, such as achieving wealth, reading books on economics, like those authored by Bill Gates, or books about other people's experiences indirectly means we are tapping into their wisdom to address that issue.
Bill Gates went through countless trials and tribulations before becoming one of the world's richest individuals. When he writes a book, he shares not just his successes but also his failures. This illustrates that life is filled with choices, and the outcomes are often shrouded in mystery. By reading books, we gain insight into experiences similar to our own.

Everyone Has Their Own Interpretation

Soekarno formulated Pancasila, but after that, it was read and interpreted by others like Hatta and Syahrir. This means that what we extract from a book isn't necessarily a reflection of the author's thoughts, as a book is merely an extraction of the author's ideas.
Therefore, we should refrain from mocking the perspectives of others.

Sharing Ideas to Expand Knowledge

We must share our ideas with others to expand our horizons, share knowledge, and prevent going insane. Receiving input from others can broaden our thinking.

The Book of the Universe

Ultimately, books are just human writings. When we read human texts, we can grasp the ideas conveyed by the authors. However, there is a grander book—the universe. The universe is the work of God, and the more we explore it, the happier, wiser, and more informed we become.

Writing and Creating Ideas

The most important aspect of the reading process is the ability to benefit others. By writing and sharing our ideas, we can make positive contributions to society and the world.
By understanding these principles, we hope to read books more effectively and extract maximum value from the literary experiences we encounter.
So, let's embrace the wisdom of reading and embark on a journey of knowledge and self-discovery through the world of books and nature!
